Unscrew the bonnet from the top of the valve using a phillips screwdriver.

Like any faucet in your home they can leak.
Sprinkler valve leaks are generally due to one of two reasons.
A blockage could also be an indication that the valve is worn out and requires replacement.
Twist out the low voltage solenoid valve then wait for excess water to drain out.
Remove lid from valve box and clean out mud from inside of box with hand trowel.
First shut off the water to the leaking water valve.
Sprinkler school so your sprinkler system is off but your sprinklers are still leaking water.
The two most likely culprits are a leaking valve or low head drainage.
If not then take it apart and determine how it is supposed to seal.
Next remove the handle from the stem and then loosen and remove the packing nut.

Start by trying to gently tighten it up and see if that helps.
Pack valve box with dry rags to absorb water.
After each run of your sprinkler system there is low head drainage or excess water that is still draining from the pipes after the water is switched off.
Reinstall the packing nut tighten lightly with a wrench don t over tighten at this or any other point and reattach the handle.
Shut off the water to the sprinkler system.
You have a threaded fitting that leaks.
If the fixture never froze then either wear vibration or a dried seal is the culprit.
If the leaks happen directly after running the sprinkler system and do not occur all the time then this normal drainage is likely the cause.
